In an effort to raise awareness around childhood cancer, CANSA – an organisation fighting against cancer in South Africa – is asking you to support the CANSA Golden Statue Awareness Campaign.
During the month of September CANSA’s employees and volunteers will -freeze’ in over 30 public venues, wearing gold or yellow. These human golden statues will also hand out material about the warning signs of childhood cancer, while CANSA’s Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) programme tins will aid in the collection of donations.
-Through this campaign, we hope to create more awareness in order to improve our on-going support provided to children and families affected by cancer. No child or family should have to face cancer on their own – our TLC programme is dedicated to providing tangible love, care and support to help cope with the effects of cancer, comments CANSA CEO Sue Janse van Rensburg.
CANSA has established the CANSA TLC Nicus Lodge at Pretoria’s Steve Biko Academic Hospital that will aid parents who need to stay overnight while children are receiving cancer treatments. Also, Pietersburg’s Provincial Hospital in Polokwane has seen the TLC Paediatric Ward being applied to the same end, relieving at least some of the pressure on affected families.
