Pregnant? Keep your cellphone at bay

The effect of cellphone radiation has been disputed for some time now, with bodies such as the Environmental Health Trust pushing government to regulate and research cellphone safety in the US.

Now a breakthrough study at Yale School of Medicine reveals that cellphone usage during pregnancy can affect brain development and cause hyperactivity.

A medical professor and obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive sciences expert at Yale, Dr Hugh Taylor, explains that the study was conducted using pregnant mice. An active cellphone was simply put on top of one cage of mice, and a non-active cellphone on another.

As young adults, the offspring showed signs of hyperactivity and a decrease in memory. -These mice were basically bouncing off the walls and didn’t have a care in the world, says Dr Taylor.

As this effect could also be applicable to the human body, pregnant women are urged to hold cellphones away from their bodies when speaking and to limit the use thereof.
